Worked example: a feather 6 cm wide

Choose Feather, a medium line (1 mm) and a width of 6 cm. The sheet is 60 mm wide, which is 2.36 in, and the bar under the drawing is 20 mm long. Print at 100%, not “Fit to page”, and hold a ruler to the bar: if it measures 20 mm, the feather is exactly 6 cm wide.

How to use the printout

• Print at 100% and check the 20 mm bar.
• Cut it out and hold it where you imagine it, then look in a mirror.
• Try the Mirror it box if you want the drawing to face the other way.
• Try a few widths: the same drawing can feel very different at 3 cm and at 10 cm.

How we checked it

We opened this page in Chrome and, for all eight drawings with three line weights and mirror on and off, set a random width from 2 to 17 cm and measured the sheet and the bar: 48 checks, plus a width that is too large being refused. We also printed each drawing at 2 cm and 17 cm to PDF in Letter and A4: 32 prints, every one on a single page with the sheet at the right width. 81 checks in all, no differences.
