Worked example: the flag accent nail

Tap “Flag accent”. The studio paints square nails in White, draws the flag on the ring finger only, and shows Easy and about 30 minutes: 20 minutes for a plain two-coat manicure with drying, plus 10 for the flag on a single nail. The steps it gives are:

      1. File nails to a square shape, push back cuticles and apply a thin base coat.
      2. Paint two coats of the base color and let them dry completely.
      3. Lay thin tape across the nail in bands and paint the accent color between the bands, then peel the tape while the polish is still wet.
      4. In the top corner paint a small navy square and press tiny white dots or stars into it.
      5. Let everything dry completely.
      6. Finish with top coat and wrap the free edge.

You will need: base coat and top coat, white polish, cherry red polish, striping tape, thin brush, dotting tool, nail file for the square shape, remover and cotton pads.

White flag accent nail recipe card with steps, level and time

Six looks, their levels and times

      Look Pattern Level About
Flag accent Flag (accent nail) Easy 30 min
Firework burst Firework burst Easy 35 min
Flag stripes, all nails Flag Intermediate 40 min
Silver sparkler Glitter (accent nail) Beginner 25 min
Red tip, blue base French tip Easy 30 min
Gold burst on black Firework burst (accent nail) Beginner 25 min

The level and the time are our own estimate for a first-time painter, worked out from the pattern. A flag on every nail is the slowest look here because each nail needs its own stripes and corner.

      Flag or firework?

      • Short on time: the Silver sparkler and the Gold burst on black are both Beginner and about 25 minutes, because the pattern goes on one accent nail.
      • Want the flag: do it on one nail first. The stripes are tape work, so square and coffin tips, which are flat across the end, give the cleanest bands.
      • Dark base: the firework burst is drawn in thin lines, so use a thin brush and a gold or silver polish that stands out against navy or black.

      How we checked it

On 20 October 2026 we tapped each of the 6 looks in Chrome and compared the level and the minutes with the studio rules for pattern difficulty: 6 looks, no differences. The recipe card prints on one page.

      Skin and safety

Test a small patch of skin before you use a new polish or remover, work in a ventilated room and keep products away from eyes and cuts. Stop if your skin gets red, itchy or swollen. This is design inspiration, not medical advice; see the disclaimer.
